The afternoon starts off with Marketing, Honey Pricing, Profitability – Jeff Fidyk, B. Comm. Business Development Specialist – Commercialization Food & Agri-Product Processing Branch, MB AG. Jeff is a sales and marketing professional with over 20 years experience spanning the grocery and food service industries. Jeff shares this body of experience with Manitoba entrepreneurs wanting to offer a new product or expand distribution of an existing product at the farm gate, at farmers’ markets, grocery stores, or to restaurants.
Following Jeff is Les Eccles, Ontarito Tech-Transfer Program lead. Les’s special interest is in honey bee breeding and stock replacement. Over the years he has focused on the development of the Ontario Resistant Honey Bee Selections (ORHBS) program. Les will be speaking on the ORHBS and Strategies of Incorporating a Successful Honey Bee Breeding Program into your Operation.
To end off the workshop, Randy Oliver! Randy Oliver is well known world wide, owns and operates a small commercial beekeeping enterprise in the foothills of Grass
Valley in Northern California. He and his two sons manage about 1500 colonies for migratory pollination, and produce queens, nucs, and honey. He has over 50 years of practical beekeeping experience, plus holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biological Sciences. Randy sees beekeeping through the eyes of a biologist. He closely follows bee research, engages in some himself, and enjoys sharing what he’s learned with others. Randy will be speaking on “Beekeeping in the California Foothills” where he will be profiling his multi faceted farm operation as they manage their hives through migratory pollination, to nucs and queen sales and then out for honey. Many interesting management strategies to tap profitability from every angle!
